About Us

Joe Scott has more than 15 years experience in wildland fire science research, application and delivery. He has conducted numerous investigations related to surface and canopy fuel characteristics, fire behavior modeling, and crown fire hazard assessment. Joe is the lead developer of NEXUS, a computer system for assessing crown fire potential; lead developer of FireWords, an annotated, illustrated glossary of wildland fire science terminology; and co-developer of FuelCalc, a system for computing summarizing and formatting ground, surface and canopy fuel characteristics for fire modeling. Joe is the lead author of the Torching and Crowning Indices, now widely used to measure crown fire potential, and lead developer of a new set of standard fire behavior fuel models for national application. Joe is a Certified Forester™ as recognized by the Society of American Foresters.
